Jerald Marrs, J.D.
Jerry is a graduate from the University of Colorado School of School of Law, holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and is former linguist for the U.S. Air Force. He is a member of the California and Colorado Bar.
Jerry has an extensive legal and negotiation background that leaves him qualified to help you with estate planning, elder law, and employment law issues. In addition to practicing law, Jerry also is a qualified mediator committed to helping individuals resolve their disputes logically and economically. In addition to practicing law, Jerry has been a Federal Investigator for the E.E.O.C., conducted workplace investigations and settled numerous complex matters. He also worked in the worker’s compensation industry and resolved high exposure claims.
As an estate planning attorney, Jerry has advised and counseled individuals, couples, and family members regarding Wills and Trusts, Advance Health Care Directives, Powers of Attorney, Nominations of Guardianship, Elder Law, Special Needs Trusts, IRA Inheritance Trusts, Medi-Cal issues and Veterans Aid & Attendance Benefits. He can also assist with probate and trust administration.
Jerry has held a number of roles in employment law. His original introduction to employment law was as a Federal Investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission where he investigated and helped resolve issues regarding discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and illegal hiring practices. As an attorney he has assisted employees in wrongful termination matters, wage and hour disputes, contracts and severance agreements. He has assisted in the representation of employers regarding Private Attorney General Actions, hiring practices, contracts, settlement agreements, and Employee Handbooks.
As a mediator, Jerry has resolved a variety of matters and has completed significant mediation training, including Dispute Resolution at the University of Colorado School of Law, negotiation training with the EEOC, 50 Hour Mediation Training with the Center for Community Dispute Settlement, 40 Hour mediation training with Steven Rosenberg, and Mastering Workplace Mediation with John Ford and Associates.
Jerry is committed to providing compassionate, thoughtful and caring representation to his clients. In his personal life he has seen the devastation caused when a loved one is lost, dealt with complications from severe medical issues, helped care for elderly family members, and counseled numerous loved ones through highly sensitive issues. Jerry is married and has two boys, one of whom will soon be serving as a U.S. Marine, and a younger son who loves nothing more than to play baseball. Jerry is active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of San Ramon, the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce, the Danville Chamber of Commerce, and is proud to serve as a board member for the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation. Finally, as a disabled veteran, Jerry is committed to helping veterans in our community.
Jerry belongs to the California Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the Alameda County Bar Association, and is a member of the Estate Planning, Employment Law and Mediation Sections. He is a member of the Contra Costa Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel. He is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association.
